Sunitha Krishnan

Today I got to know about this wonderful person – Sunitha Krishnan, who is an Indian social activist and chief functionary and co-founder of Prajwala, an institution that assists trafficked women and girls in finding shelter.

Most of them might have known about her, as she has already given few speeches in TED Conferences and she also participated in Amir Khan’s popular show “Satyameva Jayathey”, but today I come across about her. I started digging to know more about her, searched for videos etc.,

After knowing a bit about her, I should say, she is very strong at heart and determined. She ran into many troubles while she is trying to do something good for the society:

  • She was beaten up around 18 times by middlemen while she is trying to stop this sex trafficking.
  • She was jailed for 2 years
  • In one of her speeches she mentioned, that she has worn the same dress for 60 days when she was jailed.
  • She was physically left by her family and relatives. None of her family members, friends or relatives has come to visit her.

Few videos of her have really moved me. These videos are about her foundation and how she is working to eradicate this sex trafficking. In her speeches, she said about few incidents, which literally made me feel shame of the male society. In one of the incidents she said, few people have raped a 3 years old girl, how can these people do such a ridiculous thing to the little poor girls? It’s really a shame on them, the court should give orders to shoot this kind of people on sight.

She is very much appreciable for involving in these kinds of activities; one needs a lot of courage to handle these kinds of situations and taking up such decision.

We generally keep on complaining about the things we don’t have (even though we have enough), just think about the people who are in such bad situations with no food and shelter and getting involved in this kind of sex trafficking to solve their basic needs.

Good Luck & All the Best Sunitha. You are a great inspiration.
